West Point & Newburgh

Sometimes it’s nice to cruise at a calm pace and really take in the landscape. If you are looking for a peaceful experience; a chance to get back to nature and really appreciate the fall foliage or the new life of spring, this four-hour excursion is perfect. The half-day journey begins at Englewood Boat Basin, the marina that Sinterra calls home, located on Henry Hudson Drive in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Master Captain Gary will steer the boat north giving riders the opportunity to see the topography of the region from the water’s perspective.

The Hudson divides New Jersey from New York for the first several miles. On the port (Jersey) side, the boat will pass by the beautiful town of Alpine and follow the Palisades Parkway until it crosses into New York State. On the starboard side, guests will cruise past Yonkers and then the Waterfront Park of Dobbs Ferry, NY. Soon the Tallman Mountain State Park comes up on the left, which is gorgeous during the months of September, October and November when the foliage is changing from emerald to yellow, orange and brilliant red. It’s also a spectacular view as the grass is filling in with bright green color and the trees are all beginning to bud in spring. Other vistas seen from the river include Tackamac North Park and Blauvelt State Park just before Sinterra sneaks underneath the towering Tappan Zee Bridge.

From here the Hudson begins to snake left to Haverstraw, then right to Peekskill and then left again past Iona Island and under the bridge at the majestic Bear Mountain. At this point both, there’s a 360-degree view of forest and gorgeous heights which are decked out in autumn colors for months as the weather begins to cool off, and different shades of green and flowering plant life in mid-spring.

This trip continues its northerly heading aiming for West Point, the home of the United States Military Academy.  This four-year federal service academy was originally established as a fort, as it sits on strategic high ground overlooking the Hudson River. Sinterra will get an amazing view of this national treasure which was founded in 1802. Immediately past there is Constitution Island and then a straight shot up to Newburgh, NY where the boat will stop so that guests can enjoy a delicious meal, before heading back.

This excursion is perfect for those who truly enjoy nature, want to see the landscape of northern NJ and southern NY State from a unique and intimate perspective. You and your guests will enjoy using the binoculars and taking it all in at a leisurely pace, in the comfort of the luxury and conditioned climate aboard Sinterra. Be sure to keep an eye out for the eagles that nest high in the trees along the banks of the Hudson and are often found swooping down to the river to catch their next meal!
